Viewing historical performance

Use the time travel feature to see your portfolio as it was on any past date.

TrackMyShares lets you view your portfolio as it was on any historical date. This "time travel" feature is useful for tracking progress and understanding past performance.

How to time travel

There are two ways to view historical dates:

From the performance chart

  1. Open your portfolio dashboard
  2. Hover over the performance chart
  3. Click on any point in the chart
  4. The dashboard updates to show that date

From the date picker

  1. Look for the date display in the dashboard header
  2. Click to open the date picker
  3. Select any past date
  4. View your portfolio on that date

What changes

When viewing a historical date:

Prices

All prices reflect the closing price on that date:

  • Stock prices from market close
  • Crypto prices from midnight UTC
  • Exchange rates from that date

Holdings (transaction-based only)

Your holdings reflect what you owned on that date:

  • Shares purchased before that date are included
  • Shares purchased after are excluded
  • Sales before that date are reflected

Calculations

All calculations update:

  • Total value uses historical prices
  • Gains show performance to that date
  • Allocation reflects historical values

What stays the same

Some things don't change in historical view:

  • Cost basis — Your purchase costs remain current
  • Current holdings (cost basis portfolios) — Quantity doesn't change
  • Dividend data — Shows current declared dividends

Limitations

Data availability

Historical data depends on market data availability:

  • Most stocks have years of history
  • Some newer listings have limited history
  • Delisted stocks may have partial data

Transaction-based vs cost basis

Portfolio typeHistorical holdings
Transaction-basedShows accurate holdings on that date
Cost basisShows current holdings, historical prices

For accurate historical snapshots, use transaction-based portfolios.

Currency conversion

Historical currency conversions use:

  • Archived exchange rates when available
  • Recent rates as fallback for older dates

Small discrepancies may exist for very old dates.
