Importing from multiple brokers

How to organise and import transactions from multiple brokers into TrackMyShares, with tips for keeping portfolios clean and generating consolidated views.

If you trade with more than one broker, the easiest way to stay organised is to create a separate portfolio for each broker and then combine them into a consolidated portfolio.

Why one portfolio per broker

When you keep each broker's transactions in its own portfolio, you get:

  • Cleaner imports — each CSV only contains transactions from one source, so column mappings and date formats stay consistent
  • Easier troubleshooting — if something looks wrong, you know exactly which broker's data to check
  • Per-broker performance — you can see how each account is performing on its own
  • Simpler re-imports — if you need to re-import a broker's history, you only affect that one portfolio

Step 1: Create a portfolio for each broker

  1. Go to Dashboard > Portfolios
  2. Click Create portfolio
  3. Choose Transaction-based as the portfolio type
  4. Name it after the broker (e.g., "CommSec", "Stake", "Interactive Brokers")
  5. Repeat for each broker you use

Step 2: Import transactions into each portfolio

Follow the broker-specific guide for each account:

If your broker isn't listed, you can still import using the general CSV import guide.

Step 3: Create a consolidated portfolio

Once each broker portfolio has its transactions imported, you can create a consolidated portfolio to see everything in one place.

  1. In the sidebar, find the Consolidated section
  2. Click New consolidated
  3. Select the broker portfolios you want to combine
  4. Give it a name like "All investments"

The consolidated portfolio aggregates holdings and performance across all selected portfolios. It updates automatically when you add new transactions to any of the source portfolios.

Tip: You can still view each broker portfolio individually for per-account performance, or use the consolidated portfolio for a complete picture of your investments.

Tax reports with multiple brokers

You can generate a tax report from each individual broker portfolio or from the consolidated portfolio. The consolidated tax report combines capital gains, losses, and dividends from all source portfolios into a single view.

This is especially useful at tax time — instead of manually combining reports from each broker, the consolidated tax report gives you everything in one place.
