Currency and display options

Learn how to switch currencies and customize how your portfolio data is displayed.

TrackMyShares displays your portfolio in your preferred currency and offers several display options to customise your experience.

Display currency

Your display currency determines how portfolio values are shown. All holdings are converted to this currency using current exchange rates.

Supported currencies

  • USD — United States Dollar
  • AUD — Australian Dollar

Changing your display currency

  1. Open your portfolio
  2. Click the currency button in the toolbar (shows current currency like "USD ($)")
  3. Select your preferred currency
  4. Changes apply immediately

How conversion works

TrackMyShares automatically converts holdings to your display currency:

  • US stocks priced in USD are converted to AUD (if AUD selected)
  • Australian stocks priced in AUD are converted to USD (if USD selected)
  • Crypto typically priced in USD, converted as needed

Exchange rates are fetched from Yahoo Finance and cached for 5 minutes.

Currency and performance

When viewing performance:

  • Gain/loss is calculated in the original purchase currency, then converted
  • Today's change includes both price movement and exchange rate changes

Note: Exchange rate fluctuations can affect your displayed returns when holdings are in a different currency than your display currency.

Historical date view

TrackMyShares lets you view your portfolio as it was on any past date.

How to time travel

  1. Click on any point in your performance chart
  2. The dashboard updates to show your portfolio on that date
  3. See what you owned and its value at that time
  4. Click Return to today to go back to current values

What changes

When viewing a historical date:

  • Prices reflect the closing prices on that date
  • Holdings show what you owned at that time (transaction-based portfolios only)
  • Currency rates use approximate exchange rates

Limitations

  • Historical view requires sufficient price data
  • Very recent dates (today) show current prices
  • Some crypto may have limited historical data
